The sheer size of a Humpback whale is overwhelming. Its submarine shaped bulk is capped with a huge, blunt-edged head, a full third of its body. This head is actually a sophisticated communications center. Scientists believe that whales heads contain organs the broadcast and receive the loud clicks, called “clangs”, that form their language. But in this painting they are greeting each other above the ocean in a joyous greeting which scientist still do not know why they do this except to greet each other or to see in the distance.
